A Pet Peeve

First, I have to say I never knew that air could be as hot and humid as it is here, outside of a sauna.  I hadn't been out all day and saw my window bird feeders needed filling, so got my supplies together and proceeded to open the breakfast nook window to complete the chore.  (That is why I have window feeders:  I can fill them from inside the house.)  Anyway, the air that came in when the window was opened was like nothing I ever have felt before!  I really feel sorry for those people who HAVE to be out in weather like this--and now KNOW why deaths are being reported.  So, back to my pet peeve.

If the summer temperatures around here are above normal--or even close to normal--we run three window air conditioners.  Just because they are all installed doesn't mean we run them every day, but since coming back from our trip, they have rarely been turned off.  Today for sure, they have been NEEDED and can't be considered a luxury.  (Combining heat and humidity, it feels as if the temp is over 100*.)  All day long, I have felt quite comfortable--neither too warm or too cool.  I have been happy.  But right now, K is exhibiting behavior that makes me go completely postal:  He is on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket.  AND he will not admit that he would like at least one of the a/c units turned off.  The way I see it, if you are cold while a/c is ON, turn it OFF!!!!  DO NOT wrap yourself in a blanket for warmth.  And I'm just stubborn enough to not turn the a/c off because he won't ask me to.  He can have fun paying that electric bill next month...

Yes, I am passive/aggressive.

well, we've had the a/c on 24/7 while the heat wave lasts, and once in a while while trying to sleep, I get just a little chilly and pull the sheet up, but I wouldn't be able to breathe if we turned the a/c off. So K is probably just a little chilly but still wants to breathe cool air.

  2. I completely understand the need for a blanket/sheet to keep the cold air from making you chilly--I do that myself. What I DON'T understand with K is his refusal to dial down the a/c--there are MANY ways we can make the house comfortable without flirting with temps in the 50s. ;) With him it's as if there is only one setting--ARCTIC COLD--and that is it. I guess I wouldn't be so upset if it wasn't for history. He always has been one to cocoon himself in ALL of the blankets on the bed, no matter WHAT the temp in the house. It could be 90* in the bedroom and he would wrap himself in the bed quilt just because it was there. So, of course, the bed is one big yucky wet mess after he's sweat all over it. UGH!!! He has an inability to pull the blankets down to the foot of the bed whenever they aren't 'needed' and I don't understand. There are far too many things I don't understand. :D

Ah, I see. Maybe he just likes the security of cocooning. I usually have to have at least my feet covered with a sheet, but in this heat, I've learned to be comfortable without anything on top of me. I'd prefer the sheet, but it's just too hot.

I have the opposite problem-Mom, being old and having thin skin, gets cold easily so I feel it's not cool enough in here (she says she's cold) and in the winter it's too warm for me. Be nice if we could have bubbles around us where we could control the temp in our immediate vicinities!

  4. Before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, *I* was the one who was constantly cold. Since then, both K and I are like furnaces. This is nice when it comes to where the thermostat should be set, for sure. I think part of his being in a blanket when it's not 'appropriate' IS all about cocooning--it still drives me crazy, though. ;) (And if THAT is the worst of our problems, then we WILL be together until 'death do us part.' :D)

Being In a Funk

I'm still having a bit of a funk going on in my life. To be expected, I guess. But, it REALLY is affecting me to see my best friend ...
