Now, if you aren't familiar with one of these things, you must not watch Oprah. (I guess she had it on her show a bit ago.) This is the 'newest'--actually this is quite an ancient procedure--thing among people who have colds or sinus problems. I have a lot of sinus problems--THANK YOU dust mite allergy!--and my allergist suggested I use one of these things. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN!!!!! What you wind up doing is pouring water in one nostril, having it circulate through your sinus passages, and letting it pour out of your other nostril. EWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get a panic attack just thinking about doing this. And to make things worse, YouTube has TONS of videos showing how to use one of these things, such as this:
Nope, NOT going to happen.
Last night, to make things even better for K, he developed conjunctivitis. In BOTH eyes. So, today he had to go to the walk-in clinic to get eye drops. Poor baby.
Now I'm going to say something that I never thought I would: Summer can't come fast enough. (Okay, I threw up a little in the back of my throat when I wrote that.) Actually, I AM hoping for some warmer weather if it will help K feel better--I REALLY hate seeing him sick. He is SUCH a big baby when not feeling well. (I shouldn't have said that.)

I actually have fun with the neti pot thing, except I'm too cheap to buy the kit and use a Dixie cup with warm salt water. I haven't seen "crud" come out of my nostrils yet, which is disappointing. But it does give some relief.
ReplyDeletePoor K, hope he feels better soon-conjunctivitis is like adding insult to injury. (I've had it, it's misery.) Remind him to wash his hands frequently and don't touch his eyes unless his hands are clean.
I know, I know--everyone who actually uses a neti pot says how great they are. I just can't bring myself to try.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have been badgering him about washing his hands and staying FAR away from me--I don't need to get conjunctivitis again. I know I've been treating him like a little kid, but he is, after all, a man. ;) It seems as if he is doing better, though. Thank goodness.
Sounds like a procedure I saw in Cetral America back in the 80's when I was in the army...
ReplyDeleteThe Contras I was(ehem) 'instructing' captured a few Sandanistas and used a similar tecnique to extract pertinent information.
I don't think they were really conserned about thier health and well-being.
But those Sandanistas didn't have head colds afterwards. Or anything else for the matter.
I'll stick to sudafed and DayQuil
DEFINITE panic attack time when I think about it. EWWWW!!!!
