The Other Season

As I have said numerous times before, we have two seasons here: winter and construction. Today we are experiencing the construction season full force.

Last week we received a letter telling us that the water/sewer lines on our street will be replaced beginning this past Monday. No other details, no telling us just HOW inconvenienced we will be, no telling us whether we will be able to get off of our street or not, etc, etc. We live at the end of a dead end street, so it would have been nice to find out whether we needed to move our vehicles or not. It also would have been nice to find out that this MAJOR project would happen earlier--less than a week before said project begins just isn't enough time. Really, what if we had major work planned for our home and trucks and workmen needed access? Or if we were planning a move during the time the street was being dug up? Obviously, someone dropped the ball on this one.

Monday came and went and there was no work done on this street. The same on Tuesday. Mid-morning today, the equipment and men began pouring onto our street and the work began. About six hours later, we were given the note that said the work would begin today. (No reason to rush these things--after all, we could look out of the front window and SEE with our own eyes what is going on.)

About 4:00 or so this afternoon, things seemed to be going quite well. The guys had dug up our neighbor's yard and street in front of their house and had moved onto our property. It looked as if everything was moving right along and their estimated day of completion--3 July--just might work out. Then it happened. They busted the main water line. We have now been without water for about one and a half hours and there is no telling when we will get it back. YIPPEE!!!! And I still have a week+ of this shit. I think their early estimation of three weeks will be closer to the truth as to how long this will take. I just LOVE construction season.

  4. Just remembered another thing from when I still lived in Philadelphia. Twice this happened on the street where I lived. A paving contractor would come and re pave my street, nice smmoth asphalt, pain the new lines and everything. Did a beautiful job. And no less that a week later the water company would come and dig it up to relpace the sewer mains.

Nice to know there's great comunication between departments in the same city!

  5. I'm just WAITING to see how long it will be before the road is torn up after they are done. The letters we got emphasized that there will be a 'three year moratorium' on doing anything that might damage the road, so you KNOW it will be dug up again within a year. This should be fun.

  7. Too bad this didn't happen during a long weekend--then we could have planned a longer trip somewhere. :(

Being In a Funk

I'm still having a bit of a funk going on in my life. To be expected, I guess. But, it REALLY is affecting me to see my best friend ...
