"The Journal of Animal Ethics says the term 'pets' should be replaced by 'companion animals.' 'Owners' should be 'human carers.'"
What? Are we afraid we'll hurt their feelings if we call them pets? I love my cat, but REALLY???? I think some people have too much time on their hands AND need to get lives.
Just shoot me--oh, excuse me--euthanize me now.
ReplyDeleteanother example of extreme PC. I'm surprised they used the term "companion animals"-isn't "animal" demeaning? How about "quadriped"?
ReplyDelete"Hi, I'm Janet, and this is my companion quadriped Spot." "Oh, so you're his owner?" "Oh, my God, no! I don't "own" him!! I'm his human carer." Yeah, right.
No wonder there are so many abbreviations abounding-LOL, GSOH, etc. The politically correct brigade is giving us more of a mouthful, and also making life more difficult for people who can't spell-excuse me, the spelling-challenged. I better shut up or this comment will turn into a sub-post. ;-)
My day is looking to be very busy and quite stressful. After reading these comments, I think the day will go well. You two crack me up! Yeah, I'm, laughing so hard that tears are streaming down my face--thank you both!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThe animals understand this concept?
ReplyDeleteThis really makes no sense to me at all.
ReplyDeletewhat. the. hell. ????
ReplyDeleteI didn't think the PC police could get any worse, but I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteThis has stuck in my head for days-I'm walking Spot and thinking, "I'm his 'human carer'? More like 'human handmaiden'. Who owns who?"
ReplyDeleteI still think that "companion animals" is demeaning. We should think up a more dignified term, like "money pit".
Frankly, I think I am my cat's slave--should I be upset that she thinks of me like that? :D
