Number 13

And I DON'T mean Datsyuk--although, he DID get a goal tonight (his 100th career goal)! No, the Wings have now won 13 games straight at home--just one shy of the record set in 1964-65. Zetterberg got two goals in the 4-2 victory against Chicago. Once again, they just came alive in the third period--seems to be their MO this season. Khabibulin played VERY well tonight--a little too good for my tastes! :) He stopped 31 shots for the night.

With this win, Detroit is now in first place in the Western Conference--one point ahead of Nashville--and second in the league--one point behind Buffalo. A tight race, but the team doesn't seem to put much emphasis on being first in the standings--after all, it did them NO good last year when it came to play-off time! They could be EIGHTH for all I care--just as long as they do well in the play-offs!

  1. I really don't think they are staged--there are too many rivalries over the years for the players to forget. The league is trying too hard to STOP any amount of fighting--to the detriment of the game as far as I am concerned--so there aren't nearly as many as there were a few years ago. I think letting the players duke it out helps them let off some steam and keeps the injury level to a minimum--after all, they are well padded and they can't do all that much damage to each other, to a great extent.

Hockey is a physical game and it is a game that has fights. With the league trying to put the skids to fights, I think the players get very frustrated and might have the tendency to take cheap shots at each other--and this causes more injuries than the occasional fisticuffs would. When someone checks another player and sends him crashing to the ice, or into the boards, the amount of damage that can be done is unbelievable. We have seen this too much this year--with more serious injuries, in my opinion--than we used to see when the players were allowed to fight.

So to make a long answer even longer :), a big hockey brawl can USUALLY be attributed to one or two incidents that got the players pissed off at one another. It usually begins when one player takes a cheap shot at a player from the opposing team--and it usually is a star player. The star player's teammates WILL let the other team know that they don't want their star messed with or there WILL be hell to pay. And then the fighting may begin.

Being In a Funk

I'm still having a bit of a funk going on in my life. To be expected, I guess. But, it REALLY is affecting me to see my best friend ...
